More than 18 million Americans have diabetes and now it is the sixth leading cause of death in America.The number
of U.S. adults suffered from diabetes in U.S. has increased 61% since 1991. There is also a report that it is
associated with liver cancer.

Dr. Youfa Wang, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, analyzed data
collected from 27,000 men and they found men with larger waists or higher BMI
were both at greater risk for type 2 diabetes than slimmer men. Those with largest
waist size, 40 inches and above, were up to 12 times more likely to have type 2
diabetes.

What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes?
Diabetes Type 1 is know as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, which is also called
juvenile-onset-diabetes. Type 1 usually occurs during childhood or early adulthood.
It is related to infection and immune response. While, Diabetes Type 2 is usually
related to over-weight, older individuals. The symptoms can be subsided by a proper
diet.

What is Diabetic Neuropathy?
Diabetic Neuropathy is a nerve disorder caused by diabetes. The symptoms
include numbness and pain in their limbs. Nerve damage can also lead to
indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, bladder infections and
impotence.The damage may be related to  the high blood glucose.

What is Diabetic Retinopathy?
Diabetic Retinopathy is the damage to the retina during the development of
diabetes. It leads to impaired vision or even blindness. The signs of diabetic
retinopathy include blurred vision, floaters, retinal detachment and sudden loss of
vision. The common treatment is laser surgery.

What is Diabetic Insipidus?
Most Diabetic Insipidus develops in early childhood. It is characterized by intense
thirst and output of diluted urine, due to under-production of antidiuretic hormone
or the fact that kidney has no response to the antidiuretic hormone. Diabetic
Insipidus is not related to Diabetes Mellitus.
