Meditation may help blood pressure fall....... |
Robert Preidt, HealthDay News, March 4, 2005 reported that transcendental meditation (TM) may help blood vessels relax. As it relaxes the mind, also reduce the risks for heart disease. RobertÂ’s suggestion is based on an eight-month study involving 111 African teens. Researchers found that just two 15-minute TM sessions daily could trigger an average 21 percent increase in the teenÂ’s blood vessel dilation while those did not meditate have an average 4 percent decrease in blood vessel dilation over the study period. Dr. Vernon A. Barnes, a physiologist at the Medical College of Georgia's Georgia Prevention Institute, suggested if this improvement in the ability to dilate can be replicated in other at-risk groups, this could have important implications using meditation programs to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases.
