What herbs effectively against
Helicobacter pylori?
Zaidi SF and co-workers from University of Toyama, Japan,
evaluated 50 Pakistani medical plants. They found that 70%
aqueous-ethanol extracts of Curcuma amada Roxb., Mallotus
phillipinesis (Lam) Muell., Myrisctica fragrans Houtt., and Psoralea
corylifolia L. demonstrated strong anti-Helicobacter pylori activity
with MBC value ranged from 15.6 to 62.5mug/ml. The most potent
bactericidal activity was exhibited by Mallotus phillipinesis (Lam)
Muell. which completely killed the bacteria at the concentration of
15.6-31.2mug/ml. [5]


Wang YC at National Chung-Hsing University Taiwan found
Paederia scandens Merr. , Plumbago zeylanica L, Anisomeles
indica,  O. Kuntze , Bombax malabaricum DC. and Alpinia speciosa,
K. Schum. and Bombax malabaricum DC. demonstrated strong anti-
H. pylori activities. [4]


Stamatis G and co-workers at School of Pharmacy,
Panepistimiopolis, Zografou, Greece studied the anti-Helicobacter
pylori effect of 70 Greek plant extracts and a number of
commercially available herbal products. They found the extracts of
Anthemis melanolepis, Cerastium candidissimum, Chamomilla
recutita, Conyza albida, Dittrichia viscosa, Origanum vulgare and
Stachys alopecuros were effectively against one standard strain
and 15 clinical isolates of H. pylori. [3]

Yesilada E and co-workers at Gazi University, Turkey, studied the
anti-Helicobacter pylori effect of seven Turkish plant extracts. They
concluded that flowers of Cistus laurifolius was the most prominent
to against Helicobacter pylori. Cones of Cedrus libani, flowers of
Centaurea solstitialis, ssp. solstitialis, fruits of Momordica charantia,
herbaceous parts of Sambucus ebulus, and flowering herbs of
Hypericum perforatum were also effective to against Helicobacter
pylori. [2]

In an animal study/ bacteriostatic test of 53 Chinese herbs, Zhang
L and co-workers from Heilongjiang Academy of Traditional Chinese
Medicine, Harbin, found Coptis chinensis, Rheum palmatum, Panax
notogenseng and Magnolia officinalis were effective to against
Helicobacter pylori. Prunus mume and Corydalis yanhusuo were
moderate effective. [1]
