Benzophenone is a white crystal with a rose or geranium-like odor. It is insoluble in
water. Its boiling point is 305-306C and its melting point is 48-49 C. [2]

Uses

Benzophenone, an aromatic ketones (diphenyl ketone), is an important compound
in organic photochemistry and perfumery as well as in organic synthesis. [2]

Benzophenone is used as a UV blocker to prevent ultraviolet light from damaging
scents and colors in products such as perfumes and soaps. It can be added into
product-compositions directly or in the containers.

Sometimes, it is used as a flavoring agent.

Side Effects / Toxic Effects
Ingestion causes gastrointestinal disturbances including nausea and vomiting.
Ingestion of significant amounts may cause respiratory depression. Vomiting may
cause aspiration into the lungs which may result in chemical pneumonitis. It also
can cause irritation to eyes, redness, itching, and pain to skin. Vapors are irritating
to the respiratory tract, causing sneezing, coughing and possible shortness of
