What are the potential health benefits of Thallus laminariae?

Thallus laminariae has been used in traditionally Asian medicine for a long time and
people believe, it has various health benefits, especially for older women. However,
scientific evidence for its health claims is actually very limited. Korea researchers
from Kyung Hee University demonstrated its scavenging-activity against DPPH (1,1-
diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radicals. [1] Researchers from the same school found a
traditional Chinese herbal formula " Shikunshito-Kamiho" containing Ginseng Radix,
Hoelen, Atractylodis Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Prunellae Spica, Ostreae Testa,
Laminaria Thallus, Sargassum exerted anticarcinogenic activity on experimental
murine colorectal cancer. [2]Researchers from Sapporo Medical University School of
Medicine found L-trptophan in kelp. They believe, this chemical benefits those at risk
of breast cancer. [3]
